AfDB GIVES GHANA US$20m LOAN FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION

Ghana gets loan from AfDB to construct alternative for Adomi bridge.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) have released US$20m loan to Ghana for the construction of a link road. The link road is between Volivo to Dorfor Adidome, where another bridge needs

to cut across the Volta lake near the Togo border.

This new 54-meter bridge, will serve as an alternative to the Adomi bridge. It will help ensure free flow of traffic whenever there is routine maintenance on the Adomi bridge.

According to Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Roads and Highways Minister, even though there is available funds for the new bridge from the Japanese soft loan, the project did not commence due to bad roads linking to the site.

The government is still sourcing for additional fund to ensure that the new bridge when completed will be relevant. The funds from AfDB is not enough for the project, so government is looking at other funding proposals.

The design and implementation plan for the bridge is complete. Now kick off for the project awaits allocation of funds for the road component.

Japanese firm JICA, are responsible for the construction of the bridge. Asutuare Junction to Asikuma road will be developed at the same time with the bridge.
