ETHIOPIA BOLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT EXPANSION WORK ONGOING

Expansion works ongoing at Bole International Airport, Ethiopia.

The first phase expansion of the Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is already ongoing. After completion of the phase 1 expansion work, the Airport will commence operation by June 2018. The whole expansion project will come to completion by the end of this year 2018.

According to Ethiopian Airports Enterprise CEO, Tewdros Dawit, the expansion project aims at addressing the congestion among the country’s airports. It also enables the Airport make a big leap within the continental aviation industry. At the end of the expansion the the Airport will also accommodate up to 22 million passengers per annum.

Regarding domestic airports, Ethiopia boasts of the largest number of airports in Africa next to Nigeria, which meet international standards.

The Bole International Airport is located in the city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the airport is 6 km southeast of the city center and 65 km north of Debre Zeyit. The Airport was formerly Haile Selassie I International Airport and it is the main hub of Ethiopian Airlines. It is also the base of the Ethiopian Aviation Academy.
