BOTSWANA POWER CORPORATION SIGNS CONTRACT WITH GE POWER

Botswana Power Corporation partners with GE Power to increase access to energy services for its populace.

GE Power’s Grid Solution business have signed its first contract Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), the state’s electricity distributor. The contract proves the commitment of the Southern African nation in providing its people with access to affordable energy services. The contract will also help improve grid efficiency of the country.

GE Power’s Grid Solution business, a subsidiary of the multinational power company GE. GE Power is a world energy leader that provides technology, solutions and also services across the entire energy value chain. The company have its operations in over 150 countries.

GE Power’s Grid Solutions business provides solutions for high voltage (HV) substations to power generation companies, utilities, and industries. For instance, the deal with Botswana includes design, supply, installation, testing and also commissioning of a SCADA/Energy Management system at the principal grid control centers in BPC’s headquarters in Gaborone. The deal also includes backing-up of control center in Francistown.

When this system is complete it will help to improve customer services, reduce down-time, and also improve revenue collection. Already 70% of the Population in Botswana have access to  electricity, the country is currently working on digitalizing its grid network to enhance reliable access for the people.

This project begins a rewarding partnership with BPC. It also reinforces GE’s commitment to support the government of Botswana in its digital transformation process.
