ERONGO RED COMMISSION SUBSTATION AT WALVIS BAY, NAMIBIA

US $40m state of the art substation commissioned in Namibia, that will increase electricity consumption from 60mw to 120mw at a capacity of 11kv.

Erongo Red which is a Namibia regional electricity distributor has commissioned a state of the art substation that will help increase the production and distribution of electricity in walvis bay.

Walvis bay’s electricity which consumed about 60MW will now be increase to 12oMw after the substation was constructed that can transfer capacity at 11KV.

The project which is worth US $40m has been a joint venture of both Erongo Red and Nampower with the former contributing US $19m through a loan from the Development Bank of Namibia.

Erongo Red CEO, Fessor Mbango; “Our vision is to bring electricity to all by 2020 and upgrading our network is very crucial in our drive to fulfill this vision.”

The upgrading is the company biggest project which enable them address critical problems.

The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Simeon Negumbo; “Electricity is a vehicle for economic emancipation and that Walvis Bay is of strategic importance to the whole country.”
