FOUR SOLAR POWER STATION CONSTRUCTION KICK-OFF IN BENBAN, EGYPT

Construction of four solar plant station worth US $180m kick-off in Benban, Egypt which will help achieve the country energy use by 2020.

The construction of the plant will form part of the giant Benban Solar Plant with an output of 186MW. The plant will generate up to 2GW of utility-scale solar capacity through a total of 40 projects after its completion. Meanwhile, China’s clean energy company TBEA Sunoasis and Egypt will take charge of the project to completion.

TBEA’s vice president of overseas business said that ”The plant is going to be one of the largest in the world. He also said that the project will provide and aim to achieve sustainable development of human society.”

Benban solar park which is about 650km south of Cairo, is sponsor and funded by global funding agencies and banks. The agencies which include the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Industrial as well as the Commercial Bank of China.

Governor of Aswan, Magdy Hegazy said that the total investment of the four stations is US $180m.

Furthermore, the solar plant occupies an area of 37 square km. It will also help Egypt increase its use of renewable energy to 22% of all domestic energy use by 2020. It will also reduce global greenhouse gas emission by cutting through more than half a million tons of carbon dioxide annually.
