GHANA GOVERNMENT PLANS TO CONSTRUCT US$60M COCOA PROCESSING PLANT

Chinese Government set to assist Ghana in constructing a cocoa processing plant in the country.

Ghana government has agree a deal with china to construct a cocoa plant. The plant which will cost US$60m will have the capacity to process over 45000 tonnes of cocoa. This process will help boost Ghana’s cocoa sector, improve value addition and cocoa consumption locally. It will be build in the Sefwi Wiawso of the nation.

Chief Executive of COCOBOD Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo said “Ghana have been looking out for market for the consumption of cocoa. He also said that the partnership is a major boost to this plan.”

China is to provide US$$35 million grant, while Ghana takes up the remaining cost. As the conventional market is becoming stagnant, cocoa will help broaden the market space. It will also run through the entire course of producing butter, cake, liquor, cake and chocolate bars.

Economic and Commercial Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Chai Zhijing said “this project will also boost Chain’s consumption of cocoa from Ghana. He said china enjoys a surplus of a trade from Ghana so they will support to produce more finish project through this project.”

The support of the project comes after Ghana send a petition to the chinese government for assistance in establishing the cocoa factory.
