WORKERS AT ITARE DAM ABANDONS WORK
Itare Dam project abandoned as workers demand for salary increase.
Workers at the Itare Dam in Nakuru County have paused work for 3 days straight demanding for better pay. The construction site is at Ndoinet in Kuresoi South and has been raid of workers
They are being over used for there current salary. The issue of the labour hour has not been addressed since the beginning of the project.
So to that end, casual labourers are paid Sh11,000 per month but are demanding Sh27,000. Electricians of Grade One get Sh25,000, but are proposing Sh45,000 monthly salary.
More than 200 workers are gathered at Nakuru-Eldoret highway. They were later joined by officials of Kenya Building Construction and worker union.
The company officials demanded that dialogue will start only when they resume work. This was said after efforts to reach agreement failed on Tuesday.
Two days later, being Thursday over 600 them were suspended for not coming to work without hesitation
