Mali Empire

The Republic of Mali is a landlocked country in West Africa. There are seven other countries around. The people here are ‘Malian’ and its capital is Bamako. The name “Mali” is from “Malinke”which  means “people of Manden” the people who established the Mali Empire in 1230.

Mali is the eighth-largest country in Africa. Here they  frequently participate in traditional ceremonies, dances and festivals. The country has unique musical traditions.Their national drink is sweet tea, which they serve three times from the same pot – the fourth cup means you are no longer welcome!The official language of Mali is French, although there are more than 40 other languages spoken here too.

Visit the Great Mud Mosque of Djenne the largest mud-brick building in the world and a world heritage site situated in the city of Djenne.

Boucle du Baoule National Park is the largest national park and reserve here. It widely known for its prehistoric rock art and tombs, but there is little wildlife in the park.
