MJOlNER – THE VIKINGS THEME BAR IN AUSTRALIA
For all viking lovers, this is a place to wine and dine with the gods.
In Norse (North Germanic people) mythology, Mjolner is the name given to the hammer of Thor (the god of lighting and thunder), a fearsome and powerful weapon capable of leveling mountains. But in Australia, Mjolner is the name of a viking inspired restaurant and bar located in an old tobacco factory along Cleveland street in Redfern. At the underground dinner you get to choose your weapon, eat like kings and queens and drink of fire and ice.
Sven Almennin owner of the award winning bar got the idea from a bed time comic book reading to his twin sons at night. He played with the idea and kept asking himself questions; “if the god of lighting and thunder where to come down here on earth today where would he love to eat and drink?”, the inspiration was drawn from the grand Asgardian feasts of Valhalla, where the Viking Gods indulged their senses both day and night.
At the entrance of the restaurant you’ll see part of a Viking ship coming off the wall, this is only but an opening into what awaits you when you descend the stairs of the restaurant. Its architecture features an elegant, stylish historic viking fit-out that is combined with contemporary Scandinavian design.
Mjolner is difficult to pronounce but its on everyone’s lips.
