NIGERIA RECEIVES US$24m INVESTMENT FROM USADF FOR BOOSTING RURAL FARMING

USADF have provided Nigerian cooperative societies with US$24 million to help boost local enterprises and rural farming.

To improve rural farming and local enterprise in Nigeria, cooperative societies in Nigeria receive about US$24 million in grants by the United States African Development Foundation (USADF).

Reports from Diamond Development Initiatives (DDI) who is also the implementing partner for USADF projects; reveal that the funds are mainly for revitalizing the efficiency of cooperative societies.

The Executive Director of DDI Mr. Adamu Garba,while speaking at a conference and mini-agriculture fair in Abuja said; the aim of the fair was to showcase agricultural products from farmers who are beneficiaries of cooperative societies all around Nigeria. Especially those whose projects received fund from USADF and management by DDI.

Addressing food security in the country, requires efforts towards improving agriculture and increasing production. This is one of the focuses of the USDAF programs.

Over 450,000 persons are beneficiaries of the implementation of USADF projects in Africa.  Women especially amounts to about 60 percent of this beneficiaries population. While in Nigeria, 70 percent of the programs are for developing the agriculture value chain. This have in turn effectively improved the livelihood of the rural people. Key areas in the country where implementation of these projects have taken place include; Kano, Lagos and also the Niger Delta.

At the conference President of USADF, Mr. C.D. Glin congratulated the DDI, the rural entrepreneurs and farmers in Nigeria as well as other stakeholders in the development project.
