Construction of onandjokwe maternity ward is near completion in Namibia. The project which will also include 100 bed is well on track for completion in august of this year. It is the oldest hospital in the northern part of Namibia.

The hospital which was private has been transfer to the government. Furthermore, the transfer has also help the government invest the sum of  N$59 million into the project. The fund will also be use for the maternity ward, paediatric section and renovation of the accommodation facilities for student nurses.

Health Regional Director for Oshikoto, Peter Angala said “I can confirm that there is positive progress towards the project. He also said Structure wise we have done a lot in the region, we are taking services to the people.”

The project was first kick-off by Minister of Health and Social Services, Bernhard Haufiku in 2016 during his familiarisation tour to Oshikoto. He found out that the hospital was in a deplorable state.

According to the health regional director, the only challenge facing them is the geographical location of some villages. He said they sometimes find it impossible to access.
