Federal government flags off reconstruction of Ofeme community road
The long awaited reconstruction of Ofeme community road in Abia state has kicked-off. This is after the flag-off was performed yesterday by the federal government in partnership with Dangote Industries Limited.
The project is under the Executive Order #7 of 2019 which is titled Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme. With the aim to further create more opportunities for the communities.
Importance of Executive Order #7 of 2019
The scheme helps participating investors to use tax credits in reducing corporate taxes payable to government until they recoup the value of their investments in roads and bridges.
President/Chief Executive, Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote praised the federal government for the executive order #7. According to his representative Okoro George, it will help private sector intervention in the provision of critical infrastructure.
South South Regional Director of Dangote Cement, Okoro George said a new beginning is coming to Ofeme community. As the deplorable state of their roads would soon be a thing of the past. He also said the 16-kilometre Ofeme community road will form a ring road around Ofeme.
The Ofeme community road will be connected at two points to the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. Meanwhile, the two bridges connecting the town to other communities would also be rebuilt.
According to him, “the entire road network will be built on concrete pavement instead of earth pavement. It will also have a lifespan of about 40 years and contain drains on both sides while the surface will be made of concrete also instead of asphalt.”
Engr. Nwankwo Chukwudike representing the Minister of Power ,Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola said it will be a gigantic project. According to him, it will help open the community and surrounding towns to development.
He further stated that it will help reduce high cost of transportation and raise the standard of life for the people. Movement of agriculture produce from the farming hubs will also become cheaper and easier, bringing in more income.
