RESIDENTS ANGRY DUE TO DELAY IN CEMENT FACTORY CONSTRUCTION IN KENYA

Residents of West Pokot County are unhappy with development on the construction of a cement factory in Kenya.

The construction of a cement factory is experiencing delay due to the failure to complete the project. The delay has lead to residents in the area publicly denouncing the project.

Residents of West Pokot County now wants the investors to speed up the construction of the plant. Meanwhile, they feel that the current investors should give room to another willing investor if they can deliver the project.

According to some residents, The investors has been promising to start the project since 2010 but he has never showed up. They also said they are languishing in poverty after they sold their lands at throw-away prices.

Thomas Lireng, a businessman at Sebit trading centre said “The business people expected their investments to improve while the entire economy of the county to grow. He also said people has lost hope.”

They have called on the national government to explain to them the cause of the delay.  Meanwhile, the propose factory will have bring over 3,000 job opportunities to many jobless youth in the county.

Mzee Koringura from Ortum said “Our county government, members of parliament and MCAs have never shown any signs of commitment in seeing that the work starts. He also said that nobody has come to us to explain why the construction has not kick-off.”

Residents are set to take back their land if nothing is done in the near future.
