RWANDA GOVERNMENT STEP UP CENTRES FOR UNESCO RECOMMENDATION

Rwanda government making plans to train experts that will prepare documentation for Heritage sites.

Rwandan government is stepping up plans for to register its centers on UNESCO World Heritage sites. This plans will involve training local experts which will prepare a documentation. Meanwhile, The documentation will be on four Genocide memorial sites as the country intensifies efforts to make the list.

The country will hire experts from 16 countries with different skills. This experts will also train Rwandan experts for three weeks on registering sites on the worldwide heritage list. They will be train how to manage heritage sites in the nation.

The site four sites are Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre in Gasabo District, Nyamata Genocide Memorial site in Bugesera District. It will also include Murambi Memorial Centre in Nyamagabe District, and Bisesero Genocide memorial in Karongi District.

The National Commission for the fight against Genocide (CNLG) is drive the process. CNLG will aim to complete the whole process by February 2019.

Jean Damascène Bizimana, the Executive Secretary of CNLG said “After submitting the documentation, UNESCO showed us the gaps that we should refine. He also said UNESCO committee will review the request After submitting the documentation.”

The experts will give them guideline on how the make the list. Meanwhile, some of the experts are also on the voting committee.

Samuel Kidiba, Director of the African Heritage School, said  “No development can be reached without looking at both historical and natural resources heritages. He also said that trained Rwandans can help prepare such documents.”

Apart from making the list, the training will help bridge the skills gap in the management of the Genocide memorial sites.

Rwanda wants to be part of the 95 sites in Africa as their are only 1092 world heritage sites in the world.
