Gas exploration in Africa is key towards having a good infrastructure development. This is why Africa nations mostly East Africa is striving to use this medium to help develop the nation.

Mozambique has approve two licence to Sasol which will enable them explore gas to the country. Meanwhile, the licence will help to explore on an area of close to 3000km² in the southern part of the nation.

The aim is to further explore an area of 5,145km which is close to the northern part of the nation. Furthermore, the nation has been a hotbed when it comes to gas exploration as it has gain  great strive.

Sasol Executive Vice-President, Jon Harris said ”We know that there is a hydrocarbon system in the vicinity of this block. He also said that there is a very good chance that we might find some gas.”

According to him, the company is excited about the blocks in Southern Mozambique because it is adjacent to Sasol’s gas producing pande and temane fields. Meanwhile according to Deloitte, Mozambique has attracted 23 foreign direct investment project since 2010 with a capital of US$12 billion.

In Mozambique, the gas produce is which is 20% is use for power generation. Meanwhile, the remaining balance is feeds into an 860 km pipeline to the company’s secunda plant which is in South Africa.

We know that infrastructure vital but giving license to a foreign firm is it an ideal thing. Should the government not look for a way to develop local firm by empowering them with the right tools.

I feel local content is the way forward because it brings out the creativity in them. It will also spur them to build something that will even shock the nation if given the chance.
