SIGNS YOU NEED A BREAK

How do you know when you need a break?

In this article, we would discuss how do you know when you need a break. Sometimes, you just want to shout, “pause!” at life, the way you can at a smart TV, but unfortunately and much to the disappointment of many, it doesn’t work like that.  Subconsciously we all know that overworking ourselves can do harm to us in both our personal and professional lives. Yet for some reason, we continue to work ourselves to death.

I’m not saying perseverance isn’t important or that there are not times to just push through… We all know that pushing through is a life skill and an important one at that. We don’t put ourselves in time out or make ourselves take a nap. But we need to sometimes. We need to get better at seeing the need for a break in ourselves and get as good at recognizing our need for rest as we do for our kids. Forgetting about it can lead to exhaustion, fatigue, and unwarranted bitterness.

Here are some signs you might need to know when to take that break. If you fall under any of these categories you need to diaries more time for your self.

  1. You feel the stress before you even get out of bed.  That is too much stress. Too much worry. Too much to carry before you even start your day is a clue that you need a time away.
  2. You find yourself more emotional than usual.
This could be due to a number of factors, but it’s possible that you’re under a lot of stress in your life, which is causing you to show more outward emotion than you normally would.
  3. You feel lost/unmotivated.
Ever feel like you’re just going through the motions of life? Get out of bed, traffic, work, lunch, Instagram, work, traffic, Instagram, sleep… and repeat the next day. Yeah, it happens to us all (well, most of us).
  4. You have no time for yourself
No doubt it’s important to be there for the people around us, but not to our own detriment. If your tight schedule has you missing out on meals, ignoring important things and having an almost non-existent work-life balance, you might need time to step back and reorder your priorities. No job is more important than your life and health.

Life is supposed to be fun! It’s not meant to be one long never ending To Do list. A sure sign of overwhelm and needing to desperately slow down is when you can’t remember when you last did something for fun, or had a heap of spontaneous fun. If you can’t recall the last time you laughed til you cried your balance is seriously out of whack.

Life is a marathon not a sprint. We are not designed to live at “flat out” all day, every day. We can do it temporarily, but then it’s important to regroup and recharge for the next campaign.
