Activists protested against oil and gas development outside the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Wednesday, as the Southern African Oil and Gas Conference got underway. The protesters included members of Southern African Faith Communities Environment Institute (SAFCEI), the Climate Justice Charter Movement, Feed the Future for Life and Extinction Rebellion. SAFCEI warns SA’s government on the the result of its planned nuclear deal. South African president, Jacob Zuma and the Minister of Energy on Tuesday was warned by the Southern Africa Communities Environment Institute(Safcei) that it was worried that the country’s nuclear planned deal would trigger a rise in the country’s debt.
