ZIMBABWE OPPOSITION PARTY MARCH TO STOP FRAUD AND CORRUPTION IN THE UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
Zimbabwe opposition party demands for a free and fair presidential election come June 30.
Zimbabwean opposition party supporters are protesting against fraud and voter intimidation in the upcoming presidential election. Despite the cold weather, the march organised by the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) went on at Harare.
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa handed a petition to the electoral commission saying they want a free and fair election. Also, demanding for publication of voter roll, audit of ballot papers as well as safety for non-government candidates.
This election will be the first since the fall of Robert Mugabe, who was forced to step down in November. Mugabe who had been in power since Zimbabwe’s independence from British colonial rule in 1980 was replaced by his former deputy, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Previous elections in Zimbabwe were ruined by violence. Mnangagwa has pledged “free, fair and credible elections” as he seeks to end Zimbabwe’s isolation and mend fences with the West.
The ruling ZanuPF party’s youth wing is planning street march in support of the government and Mnangagwa.
