TRANSNET INTERNATIONAL HOLDINGS AGREES ON DEAL TO TRANSFORM GHANA’S RAILWAY SYSTEM.

South Africa’s Transnet International Holdings agrees on the deal to transform Ghana’s railway transportation system.

Transnet International Holdings plans to supply 110 wagons to Ghana Railway Company Limited by the end of 2018. This plan will give improve this sector of transportation in Ghana.

The deal includes the supply of 22 coaches, two locomotives, and two power vans with first class kitchens. Hence, this deal is possible through Ghana’s partnership with South Africa’s Ministry of State Enterprises, through Transnet International Holdings.

South Africa controls a 30,000 kilometer of track while Ghana has about 60 kilometers of track, so they are in a better position to bringing Ghana’s dream to reality.

The demand for railway transport is increasing as the people are requesting to move gas and other petroleum products.

They are implementing axle load requirement for trucks coming out of Western Region because they’re destroying the roads. Some businesses say that if they don’t have rail, their economic model will no longer work. Hence, the point about it is that they have shown that they are prepared to take on the government’s challenge to add value.
