MUGABE FREE OF THE US$15bn FRAUD CHARGES.

The final meeting to question Mugabe was recused by the Honorable Speaker.

The Parliament withdrew charges on former president Robert Mugabe to give account on diamond mining operations in his tenure. The charges center around the claim that the state was stripped of US$15 billion revenue.

This would have been his the first public appearance since he left office in November. Mugabe failed to appear twice before the mines committee and was given the final chance to do so on Monday.

He was recused from attending the meeting after consultations with the Honorable Speaker while condemning Mugabe’s refusal to answer questions on the missing money. No other details where given.

The Ninth Parliament are to follow up the matter to the end, to find out what happen to the money.

The former president said in March 2016 the country was robbed of wealth by diamond companies including joint ventures between Chinese companies and the army, police and intelligence services. He later expelled those firms last year and replaced them with a state-owned diamond company.
