ACEN Celebrate 50th Anniversary

The Association for Consulting Engineering in Nigeria-ACEN in a Press Conference today 8th November 2021 at the main hall of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Liaison office, Engineering Close, Victoria Island, Lagos, celebrated her 50th Golden Jubilee Anniversary.

The Press Conference was graced by three past Presidents of the association: Engr. Dr. Joseph Ibikunle Folayan, FNSE, FAEng, Engr. Mrs. Mayen Adetiba, FNSE, FAEng, Engr. Bayo K. Adeola, FNSE, FAEng, and the Immediate Past President of the association, Engr. Charles ‘Yele Akindayomi, FNSE.

Speaking at the event, the President of the association, Engr. George Chukwulewa Okoroma, FNSE, JP gave a rundown of the history of the association, the milestone achievements of the association, the major activities of the association, the membership strength of the association, the national and International relationship of the association with other engineering bodies, the challenges so far and the hope for the future.

Speaking on the current plight of consulting engineering in Nigeria, ACEN President said, “A major challenge that we are facing in discharging our duties aright as consulting firms in Nigeria is the government and Nigerians unrepentant penchant for foreign-made goods and consulting services. This has led to low patronage of the services of consulting engineers in Nigeria as we now have to compete for contracts with foreign companies in Nigeria.

If our government and people cannot trust us their own to be able to execute their projects according to standards and specifications, then, consulting engineering which is the bedrock of sustainable infrastructural development of nations has a long way to go in Nigeria.”

After his speech, members of the press from different media houses present filed a lot of questions and answers were given by ACEN President and the Past Presidents present.
