AfDB Releases list of top 10 richest Francophone countries in Sub-Sahara Africa

AfDb have compiled and released a list of the top 10 richest french speaking countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In the latest reports by the African Development Bank (AfDB), The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been considered as the country with the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) in 2017.

The report which listed the top 10 richest French-speaking countries in the SSA, ranked 12th richest African country in 2017, DR Congo as number one in the SSA with GDP of US$44.7 billion by the the end of this year, with Côte d’Ivoire with a GDP exceeding US$38 billion this year, coming in second place although been affected by a 35% decrease in global prices of cocoa, its main export.

Below is the ranking of top 10 richest Francophone sub-Saharan African countries;

  1. DR Congo (US$44.73 billion)
  2. Côte d’Ivoire (US$38.496 billion)
  3. Cameroon (US$32.625 billion)
  4. Senegal (US$16.963 billion)
  5. Gabon (US$16.186 billion)
  6. Mauritius (US$14.406 billion)
  7. Burkina Faso (US$14.275 billion)
  8. Mali (US$13.827 billion)
  9. Benin (US$10.425 billion)
  10. Madagascar (US$10.318 billion)

Note that this ranking takes into consideration only SSA countries whose first language is French, that is why Equatorial Guinea (having French as its second language) is not on the list despite its GDP being forecast at more than US$15 billion for this year.
