AIR TANZANIA PLANS EXPANSION TO OTHER REGIONS

Air Tanzania plans flights to Kenya and the rest of East Africa.

Mr Ladislaus Matindi, Managing director, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), have revealed the company’s plan to start flying to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Matindi said this during the company workers’ congress. He also added that all the routes will be active from the next financial year.

There have been significant improvement since government started reviving the Tanzania’s national carrier ATCL. The current target is to improve delivery of services and increase the number of routes.

Air Tanzania currently offers a sole international route to Moroni, Comoros and 12 domestic routes, including Bukoba, Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Kigoma, Kilimanjaro, Mtwara, Mbeya, Mwanza, Songea, Tabora and Zanzibar.

It also manages a fleet of four aircraft consisting of one (1) Bombardier Q300 and three (3) Q400 airliners.

Also speaking at the congress, Mr Emmanuel Koroso, The workers congress’ chairman, said the airline plans to add more aircrafts. The company expects to add two more Bombardier CS300 and one Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to its fleet. They will arrive in the country later this year.

Boeing on its official website also reported that the United Republic of Tanzania has ordered one 787-8 Dreamliner. The aircraft is worth about US$224.6 million.
