China Railway Construction Company will Partner with Ethiopia in upcoming projects

During the Belt and Road forum in Beijing, Ethiopia’s prime minister and leadership of China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) held a crucial meeting. CRCC is a huge construction partner in the country. Previously, they were involved in the construction of the Ethiopia-Djibouti railway project, which has given the land-lock nation access to the ocean.

The meeting was a perfect opportunity for both parties to solidify their relationship. During the deliberation, CRCC expressed its interest in some upcoming projects in Ethiopia. Most notable is the investment in agro-industry parks development, oil and gas development and the Beautifying Sheger Project. 

The Beautifying Sheger Project is a 3-year initiative to increase Ethiopia’s green spaces from 0.3m² per capita to 7m² per capita. This development will centre along the 56 km river stream from Entoto to Akaki. In essence, the Beautifying Sheger Project will make Addis Ababa the site of urban tourism while fostering a green economy.

CRCC is seeking to invest in the numerous projects outlined in the Beautifying Sheger Project. Importantly, the Beautifying Sheger Project will feature the following activities;

1. Construction of concrete to run along both sides of the rivers to enable the collection of liquid waste. 
2. Installation of industrial treatment plants at intervals along the river for efficient treatment of waste water.
3. Construction of storm water line along the river to contain raining season flooding and runoff.
4. Installation of drinking fountain technology along the walk ways and bicycle paths.
