CONSTRUCTION OF GHANA N4 FOOTBRIDGES IN PROGRESS

Construction of N4 Footbridges in Ghana is at various levels of completion

Construction of the three(3) footbridges along the Adentan stretch of the N4 Highway is at various levels of completion. The N4 footbridges in Ghana only major problem is the underground utility and communication cables. These cables are impeding the progress of the footbridge completion as it is obstructing digging process.

Site Engineer and Project Manager of Core Construction Limited, Emmanuel Gasper said “There had also been slight reviews of the construction works in areas where the cables could not be relocated. He also said his company was, however, receiving assistance from the third party companies to resolve it.”

Meanwhile, the wooden and metal form works for columns are now complete with workers working on the steel materials. This will enable them fill it with concrete for the decking of the ramps to that particular footbridge.

Project Manager of Justmoh Construction Ltd, Abdul Kadir said ”That the company usually did monthly progress reports. He also said that 23 per cent of the construction work for the ramps had been completed as of last month.”

On the site, a transformer and an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) high tension pole are the major challenge. This is preventing workers as it is close to where the excavation for the columns had to be done.

The N4 footbridges in Ghana has in the past recorded death of many individuals, one of which was a WASS student. The student’s death led to spontaneous protest from the youth and residents on November 8, 2018. During the protests the highways where blocked, and tyres also burnt; this led the government to re-award the contract for the completion of the ramps to the footbridges.
