EGYPT’S AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS GETS A BOOST

Three (3) countries lifts ban on importation of agricultural products from Egypt.

Over the past year, a number of Gulf countries have banned Egyptian agricultural imports over concerns of pesticide residue. But in a statement made yesterday by the Egyptian Agriculture Ministry, Three of such Golf countries Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, have decided to lift the ban.

The Three countries have decided to reopen markets to agricultural produce from the Northern Africa country, after series of meetings and negotiations.

Egypt recorded an increase in its agricultural exports this year, 4.1 million tons of agricultural products were exported which when compared to last year shows a 13.9% increase.

This increase confirms last years forecast that stated that due to the devaluation of the Egyptian pound by the Central Bank of Egypt in November, Egyptian exports will become more attractive to the global market and therefore this year will spiral upwards.

Egypt’s  main agricultural exports includes; fruits (grapes, citruses, dates and strawberries), and vegetables (potatoes, onions, tomatoes and eggplants), and its major export destination includes Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, the European Union and the United Arab Emirates.
