Ethiopia and Djibouti sign gas pipeline deal
Ethiopia and Djibouti have recently signed a gas pipeline deal . The deal involves building of a gas pipeline to transport Ethiopian gas to an export terminal in Djibouti.
According to Djibouti’s energy minister Yonis Ali Guedi; the gas pipeline project is the most expensive project ever built in Djibouti also called the the Horn of Africa. The deal also serves as a basis and code for other related contracts between both nations.
In 1970, Ethiopia found extensive gas deposits in its eastern Ogaden Basin. China’s POLY–GCL Petroleum investments has been developing the Calub and Hilala fields n the Ogaden basin since in 2013.
The POLY-GCL is a joint venture between state-owned China POLY Group Corporation and privately owned Hong Kong-based Golden Concord Group.
