ETHIOPIA SECURES HUGE INVESTMENT DEALS

Second Belts and Roads Forum was a great opportunity for Ethiopia to secure huge investment deals.

Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed and his delegation were in Beijing attending the Second Belts and Roads Forum for International Cooperation. In fact, the Forum is a brain child by China. It is seeking to foster international collaboration for peaceful development and economic cooperation. Apparently, China is currently Ethiopia’s largest trading partner and a key source of Foreign Direct Investment. The nation has funded huge infrastructural projects in the country, most notable is the Biggest Airport Hotel in Africa situated in Addis Ababa.  Therefore, it was imperative that Mr. Abiy and his delegates were in attendance. 

INVESTMENT EFFORTS BY PM ABIY AHMED

Shoring up private investments, PM Abiy Ahmed met with the Communist Party Secretary of Zhèjiāng province H.E. Che Jun and private enterprises from the province. These private enterprises were encouraged to invest in newly opened up sectors. Furthermore, the Ethiopian Investment Commission signed four MoUs with Chinese companies that decided to invest in Ethiopia. 

For key national infrastructures, PM Abiy Ahmed met with the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation (Sinosure) to seek their full cooperation. Sinosure is an important Chinese enterprise that provides coverage for the export of high-value added goods in China. Equally important, the company is a strategic partner for an upcoming investment deal by the State Grid Corporation of China into Ethiopia’s energy sector. 

 

In essence, PM Abiye Ahmed ensured that He used this trip to strengthen the Ethio-China relations. In his remarks during the forum, he highlighted the importance of the Belt and Road Initiative while presiding over the signing of five agreements that will deepen the country’s relationship with China.
