Vice President of Ghana Launches the country’s first medical drone service

Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia recently launched the Zipline medical drone delivery network in Ghana. Zipline is an American health-tech drone delivery service company.

The Medical drone service was first launched in Rwanda three year ago. This profound new service is a collaboration between Ghana’s ministry of health and Zipline technologies. It also aims at improving improve healthcare delivery in the country.

Vice President Bawumia said, the Zipline medical drones delivery network will provide quick response to medical emergencies, most especially to the difficult areas in Ghana. This will be possible through the flying of unmanned drones that will supply 12 routine and emergency services in addition to 148 lifesaving medical products.

The Zipline drones will serve up to 2,000 health facilities and 12 million people in Ghana. Meanwhile, Zipline have also partnered with the national healthcare supply in Ghana. This partnership will help prevent vaccine stock-outs to health facilities. The drones will also be used during national immunization campaigns.
