HFHI AND NHA SET TO DEVELOP HOUSING SECTOR POLICY IN LIBERIA

NHA and HFHI making plans to develop a housing sector policy which will increase access to affordable housing.

National Housing Authority (NHA) is set to partner with  Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) to develop a housing sector policy. This policy will also help improve the housing sector after an MoU was agree. The deal will also increase access to affordable housing for low income households through an inclusive market approach.

The Mou will also will ensure the development of policy guidelines in consultation with all stakeholders. Meanwhile, the policy will include construction of community level housing pilots, and the capacity development for the private sector to play a greater role in delivering sustainable and affordable housing solutions.

NHA Managing Director, Duannah Siryon said “The partnership is crucial to the sustainable delivery of adequate and affordable housing. He also said it will help people especially to communities living in slums.”

The project will also ensure institutional capacity building of NHA’s employees, other relevant agencies.  NHA will also provide support for smooth implementation of its programs through the Slum Upgrading Unit (SUU) of the NHA.

HFHI Chief of Party (CoP), Mathew Ndote said ”The four main deliverables of the agreement are very critical to the work of the NHA. He said it will be achieve through an inclusive Market Systems development approach.”

According to him, they intend to develop policy guidelines in consultation with all stakeholders, construction of community level housing pilots under the MoU. Meanwhile both organisation have the vision of providing greater access to adequate and affordable housing for low-income and vulnerable communities.

They plan to achieve it through working with public, private and community sector partners.
