HOW IS CONCRETE VITAL TO ANY STRUCTURE

Concrete is one of those priceless materials that can never be ignored during any construction project. It is a material that enhance the strength of your building or your structure. The material is the single most widely used in the world.

Concrete comes from the Latin “concretus” which means to grow together. It has become an ubiquitous because it is hard to imagine modern life without it.

According to statistics from Zhigen Wu from Aplustopia Science Research Institute, Canada, 25 billion tonnes of concrete is consume in world annually.

Concrete can also be used in many application. Such applications include water treatment facilities, basic foundation, parking structures, floor construction etc.

VITAL ASPECT OF CONCRETE

  1. Fireproof: Concrete don’t burn because it is not affected by the effect of fire as no toxic fume is produced. It is also from from smoke or drip molten particles.
  2. Durability: Concrete is a material that can last for a long time. The strength of a concrete also helps facilitate the introduction of upper floor in buildings. This provides a clear span between the external walls and support the internal masonry wall.
  3. Flood resistance: It is design to prevent the occurrence of flood whereby making it a good water resistant. This measures ensures that the structural integrity is maintained.

Over the years, Concrete has contributed immensely to the world but still contribute to global warming. This is as a result of an estimated production of 1 ton of portland cement which causes the release of  CO2 into the atmosphere. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to reduce the impact and help transform the industry.

Such efforts are to replace the portland cement with pozzolanic materials or even make concrete a more green materials.
