ILLEGAL STRUCTURES DEMOLITION KICK-OFF IN KENYA

Nairobi city kick-off demolition of illegal structures in the area.

Demolition exercise has kick-off in Nairobi city, kenya. The exercise is part of plans to get rid of illegal structures along roads and footpaths in the state capital. It will also help in terms of securing the area from people that are operating illegally.

The demolitions came a month after a notice had been issue to the traders to vacate the area. Meanwhile, the vacated area will be less than three metres from the railway. The notice also came a month before the demolition.

The notice which was issued on 19 July, by the Secretary, National Buildings Inspectorate an Chairman, Multi-Sectoral Committee on Unsafe Structures Mr Moses A. Nyakiongora .

According to the notice, the settlements that face demolition are Makongeni, Accra, Ngara, Mbotela, Dandora Kenya Power and Kenya Railways reserves in Kaloleni among others.

The demolition is been supervise by armed police officers and there was no resistance from the affected traders. Meanwhile the exercise will extend to  Taj Mall area, Embakasi East village, and Manyanja Road.
