KENYA GOVERNMENT SECURE US$ 220M FOR WATER PROJECTS

Kenya Government secure funds from investors that will help reduce the problem faced in the water sector of the nation

The kenya Government has secure fund for the construction of a water and sewage project. The project is a deal in concessional loans and a grant with three European agencies. The loan is from French development agency (AFD), European investment bank and European union (EU). AFD will contribute US$ 168m, European Investment Bank will bring US$ 40m while EU will give US$ 6m.

The mega project will contribute to the construction of the new dam in Mombasa. It will also provide new water source and upgrade water supply network in kisumu. The project will also benefits the satellite towns in western Kenya.

The current reservoir has seen a drop in water consume due to the population and poor climate. The drop has seen both mombasa and kisumu struggle to meet the water demand of the resident. The challenge has seen businessmen ask private firm to supply them water while other have been obliged to sink expensive boreholes on their property.

The project is a major boost in the sector as the ministry is planning to undertake sewerage system installation. The sewerage will be install so as to help develop sanitation around the country.
