KENYAN GOVERNMENT START DREDGING ON LAKE VICTORIA

Dredging process at Lake Victoria kick-off today in Kenya.

Kenya government has kick-off the dredging process on lake Victoria. This process will help boost the nation transportation sector as well as growing the sector. Meanwhile, the process will help ease the vessel navigation.

The project will help eradicate water hyacinth and also remove sediment which will further open the lakeside port. Meanwhile, the government took so long but finally the process is in place.

The project will help open up the Winam Gulf as the area is filled by weed plus also extend to the Homa Bay county. Meanwhile, the exercise will cover 62 kilometer and will be finalize in 30 months time.

Kenya Ports Authority head of Inland Waterways Javan Wanga said “The pier accumulated residues over the years. He also said it has made some area shallow up to a level of between 1.5 and 3m deep.”

The removal of the stubborn weed will start in three months time. This is due to the nonavailability of hyacinth to help harvest. Meanwhile, two hyacinth will be shipped from china before the harvesting will kick-off.
