KENYA GUSII STADIUM STILL LACKS PROPER RUNNING TRACKS DESPITE FACELIFT

Will contractors in africa ever get thing right without people complaining about each project after completion?

Gusii Stadium which was refurbish a year ago stands as the one of the best sports facilities in Kenya but there are concerns over its poor running track. This is after athletics complained about the poor nature of the facilities during Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (Kecoso) games.

Nyanza South Athletics Kenya chairman Peter Angwenyi said “As technical officials of Athletics Kenya, we have received complaints about the type of sand used on the running track at Gusii Stadium.”Image result for Gusii Stadium

According to Angwenyi, It is of poor quality and I appeal to the county government to put up an artificial running track.

WHY DID THE CONTRACTORS NOT CONSIDER THE TRACK DURING CONSTRUCTION?

People in Africa always feel things like these don’t really matter but it is totally wrong. The project for the refurbish was worth US$502k (Sh52 million) and still the track is not up to required standard. Contractors should have properly done their bill of quantities (BOQ) so as to enable each aspect of the project meets the required standard.

NEW FEATURES DURING THE FACELIFT

The new facelift now has two new changing rooms fitted with modern amenities. It also has an ablution block, holding areas for VIPs, functioning lights as well as parking spaces.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae said “This stadium meets national standards and can host major sporting events.”

Meanwhile, to ensure regular supply of water for irrigating the playing surface, the County Government sunk a borehole in the stadium. This will enable fans have access fresh drinking water from any of the 10 water points in the stadium.
