KENYA’s LAMU PORT PROJECT SET TO GETS Sh8.9 Billion

Lamu port project gets funds from government to speed up its construction process in Kenya.

Lamu port project has receive a major boost after funds were approve by the government. The fund which is worth Sh8.9 billion will help speed up the construction process of the port. It will also help tackle unemployment in Lamu as 400 youth has been trained.

Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya said “We are here to assess the progress of Lapsset and to iron out various issues. He also said that the project would be a game changer for Lamu County and Kenya.”

The game changer project will also receive more fund from september supplementary budget. It will also help to ensure that the project is successful and problem free.

The project will also grow the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by at least 3 per cent. This will help boost tourism, trade and local livelihood in the nation.

Lapsset CEO Silvestre Kasuku said “The first ship could dock at the port by December this year when the first berth will be ready.”

The Sh2.5 trillion project includes a 32-berth port; transportation hubs for rail, highway; international airports in Lamu, Isiolo and Lodwar. It will also have an oil pipeline from South Sudan connecting Uganda and Ethiopia; an oil refinery and three resort cities.
