LAGOS STATE TO GET 10,000 LED STREET LIGHTS

Lagos state government signs contract for Intelligent LED streetlights.

The Lagos state government and UK-based  LED Lighting Manufacturer, Low Energy Designs Ltd have signed a US$6.9m contract for the supply and installation of energy efficient LED streetlights.

Low Energy Designs Ltd will supply and install 10,000 streetlights that will cover about 300km of the state roads. The contract also includes the provision of an intelligent control system for real time operation of the LED streetlights. In addition to that is the provision of a Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS). All these are to be delivered  in the next 12 months.

Lagos state already have about 33,000 streetlights.

Low Energy Designs street lightning technology reduces energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and allows the control of light intensity. Three LED products will make the combination of the street lights. These products include Phoenix ULTRA, SunBURST and then Norrsken.

Also in partnership with Nigerian firm Biswal Limited, Low Energy Designs will provide 31% of the lights for modernization of roads in lkoyi, lkeja and Victoria Island. The partnership will also include the establishment of HESS and streetlights manufacturing facility in Epe town. The facility will supply products across Africa and will also provide about 500 jobs for Nigerians.

CEO of Low Energy Designs, Alan Parker said, they have supplied their intelligent LED streetlights into Nigeria for over 10 years. He added that since lighting manufacturers virtually do not exist in Nigeria and the West coast of Africa. It will be imperative to partner with a local based company (LEDCo Ltd) to manufacture LED lighting locally in Lagos.
