Role Summary: 

The Legal Counsel will be involved in a diverse range of legal activities and support the Commercial and Employment Counsels of the One-Power business and the Global Growth Organization.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Being responsible for providing legal advice to the legal and business teams in the Region, interfacing with the legal professionals within One-Power and GGO businesses operating in the Region
  • Working closely with GE’s tax team in the structuring, establishment, renewal, rationalization and administration of local legal entities in the Region, legal entity management for the Region supporting in cooperation with the Global Ops Legal shared services function
  • Assisting in drafting, negotiating, and closing complex transactions and projects (including but not limited to sales, sourcing, licensing, services, consortium, teaming, sub-contracting arrangements or other strategic alliances)
  • Providing ongoing strategic and tactical advice and support on general commercial matters, transactions and regional regulatory issues
  • Assisting in selecting and supervising outside counsel on litigation, and deal related matters
  • Assisting in providing advice to the GE businesses and Human Resources in coordination with the Labour & Employment COE, on labor & employment issues
  • Undergoing periodic formal and practical training and work experience, with a view to being able to support more complex infrastructure transactions particularly in the One-Power business
  • Creating legal forms, templates in Portuguese adjusted to the local laws and best practices in the industry

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • LLB, Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school for more than 3 years
  • Additional LLM and other certifications preferably
  • Registered as a Lawyer with the Angolan Bar Association and if possible in other Bar Associations
  • Knowledge of Angolan Law including Sourcing, Labor and Employment, corporate
  • At least 5 years’ experience in business law at a premier law firm and/or corporate legal department and/or or recognized GE programme
  • Member in good standing with local Bar and other Bards with no disciplinary action
  • Broad knowledge of Angolan public and administrative law and commercial legal practice in the region (including preferably Energy Law, Health Law, Transportation Law, Customs Law, Arbitration Law, Labor Law, Finance Law)
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory regulations
  • Must have valid authorization to work full-time without any restriction in the role’s location
  • Attendance in conferences, seminars and similar events in the last 5 years
