LOW INCOME HOUSING SET TO COMMENCE IN ZERO2ONE SKYSCRAPER

Zero2One skyscraper set to implement low income housing.

The tallest building in cape town is set to reduce its housing price to benefit the public. Zero2One skyscraper will set aside part of its households with income less than R15,000 per month. It was approve by Municipal Planning Tribunal in December  2017.

Activist organisation Ndifuna Ukwazi said “The developers, FWJK, submitted an application last year to build the tallest skyscraper in Cape Town. He also said a request for additional rights to build higher than the zoning scheme was allow.”

The owners of the of the affordable units will only be able to sell to other households. They will be earning up to R15,000 (annually for inflation) within the first eight years of having purchased the unit.

Major of cape town is considering the proposal form Ndifuna Ukwazi. She proposes an amendment to the Zero2One approval that “20% of the additional floor space should be for the residential component of the development.

The proposal is also view as a landmark decision for resident in the area. It’s only challenges is that the proposal doesn’t provide for rental housing or stop new owners from moving out and renting the apartment at market rate.
