MAINONE AND FACEBOOK TO PROVIDE HIGH SPEED INTERNET IN TWO NIGERIAN STATES

MainOne and Facebook partner to deepen broadband internet penetration in Nigeria.

Two of Nigeria’s fastest growing states Edo and Ogun state would be beneficiaries of a partnership between MainOne and Facebook. MainOne on Monday 25th February 2019, said it plans to undergo a metro fiber infrastructure project in the two states.

MainOne is a cable company and Facebook, a social networking service company. The MainOne and Facebook partnership aims to deepen broadband internet penetration in Nigeria.

MainOne and Facebook is working together to provide metro fibre connectivity to reach more than 1,000,000 people; in Benin City, Abeokuta, Sagamu and 10 other towns. MainOne will build approximately 750 km terrestrial fibre infrastructure in Edo and Ogun state; which will also serve as open-access transport networks.

The open-access transport network will help connect mobile operators’ base stations, Internet Service providers, Points of presence (PoPs), and public locations including schools and hospitals.

The cable company MainOne already have strength as a wholesale telecoms infrastructure service provider; but investments from Facebook and also support from  local regulatory and state authorities will help ease the process in achieving the purpose of the metro fiber infrastructure project.

Ibrahima Ba, Network Investments Lead for Emerging Markets at Facebook; while speaking on the partnership said, MainOne and Facebook are working closely together with other partners to speed up broadband deployment.

Also, the Chief Executive Officer of MainOne, Funke Opeke said, “MainOne is committed to broadband innovation, job creation, as well as growing the digital economy of West Africa”. She also added that the partnership between MainOne and Facebook; will help to improve the quality of access and also accelerate the digital transformation in Ogun and Edo states.
