MAMAMAH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION KICK-OFF IN SIERRA LEONE

Mamamah International Airport set to kick-off construction to help reduce burden on travellers in Sierra-leone.

The construction of the mamamah international airport will soon kick-off in sierra leone. The airport which is worth US$318m will be built by China Railway Seventh Group. The airport is name after the host community and will be complete in four years. It will be located outside the state capital freedom but on a mainland. The location will help foreign investor looking to invest in the project and also help them move freely in the area.

The outgoing President Ernest Bai Koroma was at the ground breaking event of the project. He said that the development is one of three major project that his government is to achieve. The aim of the various project is to transform the country to a Middle Income state by 2035.

The president also reveal plans to build a new State House, parliament and ministerial buildings. He said that it will help provide an alternative work environment in the new city, away from Freetown.

According to Critics, The new airport is an unnecessary economic burden as the country is struggling to recover from the effects of war, epidemic and a deadly mudslide last year.

Chinese Exim Bank is providing the funds for the Mamamah International Airport through a loan from the world bank and IMF. The Sierra-leone government insists that Mamamah should be build to help resolve transportation problem with Lungi Airport.

Finance and Economic Development minister Momoh Vandi said “The objective of this project is to improve on international connectivity. He said it will reduce burden on travellers.”
