MOZAMBIQUE GOVT. TO INVESTIGATE POOR RESILIENCE OF INFRASTRUCTURE

The investigation by the Mozambique government has come in the wake of the damage caused by cyclone Ana which swept through the central and northern provinces on 24 and 25 January.

The storm caused the roads and bridge to collapse despite some of it just recently opened.

Minister of Agriculture Celso Correia lamented that this is a recurrent problem of great concern to the government since millions of US dollars are spent every year on repairs to infrastructure.

He further noted that a survey of the main infrastructure devastated by cyclone Ana is underway which will uncover the root causes of the problem.

Meanwhile, recently rehabilitated bridge over the Revubue River is among the infrastructure which collapsed during the storm.

This has affected the area as dozens of residents of Moatize district has been left stranded because the road traffic could no longer pass over the river between Tete city and Moatize.
