MOZAMBIQUE MAPUTO RING ROAD NOT COMPLETE DUE TO FINANCIAL ISSUES
Maputo ring road not complete due to financial issues.
The construction of the ring road is experience delay due to low funds to settle the resident. The fund is not enough to pay about 500 households in the outer Maputo neighbourhood of Luis Cabral. The part to be complete is section six which will link the ring road to the Maputo-South Africa motorway.
The road is being built with 300 million US dollars from the Exim Bank of China. But under the contract, the contractor is not responsible for moving people or demolishing structures that are in the way of the road. The work is to be done by the government but they are finding it hard because of low resource.
Maputo-Sul Chairperson Silva Magaia said ”They are not prepared to throw people out of their current home. He also said that a proposal has been submitted to tackle the problem.”
The Ring Road was designed as a toll road, yet to date not a single toll gate has been built.
