NEW MARKET SQUARE UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN PORT-HARCOURT

The construction of the new market square is located in the every busy GRA environment in Port-harcourt. The project is very important because it is located close to Genesis deluxe cinema and Jevinik restaurant. The purpose of the project is to get individuals and families the best quality and price of any item available.

According to the Site Manager, Mr Fidelis, “The design of the project is different from previous shopping mall in the area. The new market square has a basement but no storey building.”

The new market square has a length and width of 70m by 60m. The project kicked-off in may 2017 and has seen a great improvement over the last month.

The foundation as we all know is the one that connect the structure to the ground. The foundation was a combined footing of Raft and Pad. The challenges faced during this stage was that the area was a filled with swamp. So excavation was not carried-out instead the area was filled with concrete and the reinforcement bar was placed on it.

The structure under construction is a combination of concrete frame and steel frame. We know that steel has tremendous tensile strength while concrete holds compressible forces equally well. Together, they take the strength of the structure to a pretty high level, making it safe from heavy loads and seismic forces.  According to the site manager, the concrete mix ratio is 2:2:4, that is 2 cement to 2 sand to 4 aggregate.

Market Square which commenced trading back in December 2015 is  Nigeria’s emerging grocery retail chain.
