NIGERIA AWARDS US$3.4m CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION AND REHABILITATION OF ROADS

Enugu State have awarded new road construction and rehabilitation projects worth US$3.4m (₦1.2bn).

The state commissioner for works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, said Enugu State government has awarded US$3.4m worth of contracts for the construction and rehabilitation of roads. These roads are in both the rural and urban areas of the state.

The Government have remain unfailing with contracts execution duration and funds payments. Engr. Nnaji, therefore urges all contractors to commit and complete their projects in due time and to the expected specifications.

The new road projects include the constructions of:

  • Achi Akpa –Daughters of Divine Love (DDL) Juniorate Main Entrance,
  • Abakpa-Nike,
  • Enugu East L.G.A,
  • Enugu North L.G.A,
  • Reconstruction of Colliery Avenue to Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Headquarters and Asata Enugu,
  • Reconstruction of Ezenwani Akpaka and Isukwuato Street/Ogui road,

Other projects include:

  • The re-awarded contract for the completion of Orie Emene-Adoration Ground road (Adoration Ground section),
  • Emene, Enugu East L.G.A and
  • The extension of Nkwo Inyi-Akpugo Eze- Anambra State border road in Oji River L.G.A.

Engr. Nnaji explained that the contractor handling the Orie Emene-Adoration Ground road withdrew formally. This in turn necessitated the re-awarding of the contract to another construction company.  He also said that Colliery Road, which was abandoned for over 20 years, needs to be rehabilitated because of its relevance, considering that the “One Stop Investment Shop” office of the Ease of Doing Business is located there.

The Government is shifting its attention to Oji River L.G.A, so as to attract development to every corner of the state as well as resolving the rural development agenda. The council also decided to complete the Nkwo Inyi – Akpugo Eze-Anambra State border road to promote economic growth and reduce urban migration.
