NSE PORT-HARCOURT 2019 ENGINEERING WEEK
Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Port-Harcourt branch celebrates its 2019 Engineering Week
To mark and also celebrate its achievements for the year, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Port-Harcourt branch, kicked-off its 2019 Engineering week on Monday 25th November, 2019. The 7-days programme (25th November – 1st December 2019); which is themed “Building Resilient Infrastructure to Promote Sustainable Industrial Growth in the Niger Delta”; began with a charity visit to Bakana Speed Boats Owners Association at Abonnema Wharf, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.
Below are the scheduled activities for the rest of the week.
After the visit, an opening ceremony/lecture was held the next day, 26th of November, 2019 at the State Secretariat.
To officially begin the ceremony, the NSE Port-Harcourt Branch chairman Engr. Precious Bob-manuel in his welcome address said NSE is always ready to partner with the state government in the continual development of the state.
The ceremony also had as its Special Guest of Honour, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim; the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communication.
During his speech, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim said the 2019 Engineering Week’s theme is in line with Governor Nyesom Wike’s vision which he has demonstrated and is demonstrating through the construction of roads in Port-Harcourt city and in other parts of the State. He also said the #OurStateOurResponsibility advocacy campaign was designed to build strategic partnership with stakeholders in the state in order to achieve the Governor’s vision. Pastor Paulinus Nsirim further used the opportunity to call on the citizens and residence of the state to join the campaign in propagating a positive image for the state so as to spur more investments.
Building Resilient Infrastructure to Promote Sustainable Industrial Growth in The Niger Delta
There were lectures by Professor Tamunoene Kingdom Abam; Vice President-Africa, International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) and Engr. George Chukwulewa Okoroma; Principal Partner/CEO Gapec Consultants Limited.
Professor Tamunoene Kingdom Abam spoke on the topic ”Scoping of Sub-soil Geotechnical and Environmental Conditions for Resilient Civil Structures”. While Engr George Chukwulewa Okoroma gave a lecture on ” [Download not found].
The 2019 Engineering Week continued with a technical visit on Wednesday 27th November 2019 to Star Marine Onne Oil & Gas Free Zone.
The youths are the leaders of tomorrow, so engineering students are certainly not left out in this programme. Today, Thursday 28th November 2019, there will be a Technical Paper Contest amongst River State University (RSU), University of Port-Harcourt (Uniport) and Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic (Kenpoly) students at the Engr. Ishmael Banigo (NSE) secretariat by 5 p.m.
Can the defending champions (Kenpoly) retain their crown or would we see a new champion?
