OIC GAMBIA VOWS TO COMMENCE ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN GAMBIA

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Secretariat of The Gambia (OIC) has announced it’s plans to continue with the road projects that will serve as effort to host the 2022 Islamic Summit in the country.

Speaking to the media, while touring the various site chief executive officer (CEO) of the secretariat, Yankuba Dibba was briefing the National Assembly Select Committee members on the proposed projects.

Dibba confirmed that the availability of funds intended to finance the roads construction for the summit is secured. While, adding that the implementation stage of the first phase of the project has already started.

Quoting Dibba, “The 20 new roads classified as P1 to P20 which is a 50 kilometer urban road project has already secured the funding of a US$50 million Saudi fund which is purposely designed to decongest the flow of traffic during and after the summit.”

He also noted that the implementation stage of every phase of the road project will not only involve foreign contractors but Gambian companies as well in order to gain both the financial and technical benefit as local partners.

Meanwhile, the road construction will kick-off in 2021 as contractors has not been hired yet with a proposed start set for March 2021.
