PHOTOS OF BUILDING COLLAPSE IN WOJI ROAD, PORT HARCOURT
These are photos from the site of a building collapse in Woji road, Port Harcourt.
Residents within the affluent residential area where a building collapsed last year (see here), have just witnessed another incident. While visiting the site, Gambeta News observed that the work men were pouring concrete in the formwork before it collapsed. Apparently, the cantilever support buckled under pressure (see the photo below), but no life was lost.
This is another evidence of a badly procured project. Nigeria’s economy has not been the best in recent times, and this has resulted in clients looking for cost saving techniques. One typical approach is omitting some key professionals in the design, planning and construction phase. The importance of architects, structural engineers, civil engineers, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers should not be underestimated. Another popular approach is the reduction of materials required for the construction. Ideally, it is advisable that clients seek the advise of experts before embarking on a project. Being penny wise, could eventually make you look foolish!
