Construction plans for Marula Industrial Hub in Limpopo is underway.

South Africa is making plans to build a multi-million dollar hub in the heart of Limpopo. The hub will help boost processing facilities. It will have a research centre plus also have every agri-business support service. These services will help support rural farmers and small businesses.

This plan will help develop the agri-industry and also build more connections with neighboring nations. The project will also address the triple challenges facing the area which are inequality, poverty and unemployment.

The plans were announced during the launch of the 2019 Marula Festival in Lephalale. According to the Limpopo Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development and Tourism, Seaparo Sekoati plans are already in the advance stage. He also added that the new Industrial Hub in Limpopo will host the next annual Limpopo Marula Festival in South Africa.

Seaparo Sekoati said ”The province executive committee took a conscious decision that there should be benefits when hosting such events. He also said  they plan to develop a sustainable industry out of this wild fruit to address the triple challenges.”

Currently, the local economy is benefiting from the Limpopo Marula Festival as it produces in excess of R45 million. It will also triple in the next three(3) years according to Sekoati as more than 500 job opportunities will be available for the communities.

Meanwhile, the province will also partner with the Department of Environmental Affairs and South African National Parks. This will ensure a sustenance of its valuable species in the area.
