DOES HAVING A LICENSE MAKE YOU AN ENGINEER

Having observed and looked at the various question asked by young engineer like

Well there are regulations and license established by various jurisdictions of the world to encourage public welfare, safety, well-being and other interests of the general public.

And to define the license process through which an engineer becomes authorized to practice engineering and/or provide engineering professional services .

For consulting engineers and private practitioners, license is a virtual necessity. In fact, it is a legal requirement for those who are in responsible charge of work, be they principals or employees. Other reason may involve:

  1. Prestige:  In other fields, PEs are respected by the public are seen in same lights as licensed professionals.
  2. Authority: Only PEs can sign and seal engineering drawings; and only PEs can be in responsible charge of a firm in private practice or serve as a fully qualified expert witness. Also, many government agencies and educational institutions are emphasizing license among their engineers as well.
  3. Money: Studies have shown that most PEs earn higher pay throughout their business careers. Beyond a company structure, your PE allows expanding opportunities

A licensed/registered engineer has the authority to take legal responsibility for engineering work or projects (typically via a seal or stamp on the relevant design documentation) and for approval, or to seal engineering work for public and private clients.
